A Problem With Your Vehicle’s Starter Can Be a Huge Nuisance

The factory starter that is in your automobile should last about 100,000 miles. Unless the part is faulty, the only thing that will cause it to die prematurely is leaking oil from a cracked cylinder block. The starter is located under the cylinder bank, and if it gets saturated by motor oil, it will no longer work. CAR FIX Crossville would be happy to test your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s starter to see if it is malfunctioning. If it is, we can replace it. Here are signs that your starter is having problems turning over the engine so it can bring in air and fuel.

Noises Before Ignition

The starter may make strange noises before your vehicle fires up. The most common sound a dying starter will make is a clicking noise. This being said, some people report that they heard a whirring noise. If you hear either of the sounds before your engine ignites, drive to our shop rather than take chances. This one instance may be the only warning that your vehicle’s starter gives you that it’s going bad.

The Engine Doesn’t Start

In other words, the next time that you try to start your automobile, it may not start. The vehicle cannot begin and continue to generate combustion if the starter does not turn the engine over. Turning the engine over is how the engine brings air and fuel into the combustion chamber. Once the engine has turned over, the starter will send electricity to the spark plugs so they can ignite the air and fuel. A dead engine can mean that your starter is dead and none of the above is happening.

The Lights Are Working

One way to check this is to turn on your automobile’s lights. If they are working, the battery is not dead. It and the alternator are supplying electricity to the lights. This makes it safe to assume that the reason why you are stranded with a dead engine is because the starter is no longer working.

Burning in the Engine

Another thing that will point to the starter is burning in the engine. Many people try several times to fire up their automobiles when they won’t start. Unfortunately, this overheats the starter motor. Consequently, you will see smoke and smell burning odors in the engine.
